Bible Verses for Someone Traveling Alone
The Bible contains several passages that can bring comfort when someone is leaving home or traveling to an unfamiliar place.
Psalm 121:7–8
“The LORD shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul. The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.”
This passage is especially meaningful for travelers because it speaks directly about God’s care over our going out and coming in.
Psalm 91:11
“For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.”
This verse can be a comforting reminder of God’s care and protection.
Joshua 1:9
“Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”
For someone traveling alone, this verse offers encouragement that God’s presence accompanies them wherever they go.
Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
These verses are useful when a traveler faces unfamiliar decisions and needs wisdom and direction.
How to Pray for Someone Traveling Alone
You do not need complicated words to pray for someone who is traveling alone. Start by naming the person before God and asking Him to watch over their journey. You can then pray specifically for their transportation, health, decisions, safety, accommodation, relationships, peace, and safe arrival.
It can also help to pray for the things that are unique to solo travel. Ask God to give the person good judgment when they are in unfamiliar places, courage when they feel uncertain, and wisdom about whom they trust. These specific prayers can make your prayer feel personal rather than like a general travel blessing.
You can also personalize any prayer on this page by adding the traveler’s name, destination, reason for travel, or a particular concern.
When to Say a Prayer for Someone Traveling Alone
A prayer can be offered at any point during the journey. You might pray before the person leaves home, while they are heading to the airport, before a flight, during a long road trip, when they arrive at their destination, or before they begin the journey home.
If someone is traveling alone for the first time, a short prayer for courage and wisdom may be especially comforting. If they are going abroad, you may want to include prayers for unfamiliar places, communication, health, documents, accommodation, and safe decisions.
The most important thing is not the length of the prayer. It is the sincere act of entrusting someone you love to God.
Final Prayer for a Safe Journey
Heavenly Father, thank You for caring for us wherever life takes us. Please watch over everyone who is traveling alone today. Give them safe roads, peaceful flights, wise decisions, good health, trustworthy people, and protection from harm.
When they feel alone, remind them that Your presence is with them. When they feel afraid, give them courage. When they are uncertain, give them wisdom. Guide their steps and bring them safely to their destination.
May their journey be peaceful, their heart be strong, and their return home be safe.
